As every mother feels, it is a very difficult speech to make because as a mother you will have to let go of your son and give the full reigns to his wife.

Best Free Speeches Available

You might have many questions in your head when trying to figure out the words you want to say. Here are just a few:

  • What should I put into my mother of the groom speech?
  • Should I be emotional?
  • Should I keep away from expressing too much emotion since I am talking about my son who would eventually become the man of his own household?

We have made up a list of the best mother of groom speeches on our Youtube channel for you to see some great examples. And we would be very proud if you would come up with ideas for your own speech after watching these videos.

And also to quickly wrap up the most common things that are usually said by mothers in their wedding speeches, we also compiled this summary.

Words to Your Son

In writing your mother of the groom speech, it is important that you see how you feel about the occasion itself. You can thank your son for being the best son in the world. This is an emotional part for both you and your son. It would be up to you if you want to suppress the emotions or just let the tears flow. It would be best if you don’t try to control your emotions because it keeps your speech real and heartfelt. Do not forget to remind your son about his responsibilities as a husband and as a father to his future children.

When Addressing the Bride

You should also acknowledge your son’s bride and how significant her role is as a wife. If you do this, you will make yourself more respected not only for the bride, but for the parents of bride as well. This will assure them that you would take care of her as if she were your own daughter.

It is important that you tell how much you love both the bride and groom. You should also assure the bride that she can come to you with any problems no matter what they may be. In this way, you will be able to open the lines of communication between you and your daughter-in-law without much hindrance.

See Your Speech as a Symbol

It is also important to remember that as much as you love your son, it is time for you to let go of him. This speech is a symbolic way of passing the torch from you to his wife. From this moment on, the bride will be the one to take care of your son for the rest of their lives together. This is a thing that you will have to accept as the mother of the groom.

A Final Note

Free mother of the groom speeches (and the videos linked above in particular) will help you model your own speech to remind the audience of how much a mother loves her child. This can also show that you will always be there for your son and his family no matter what. If your speech comes from your heart, the people in the audience will be able to feel the sincerity and truthfulness of your words.

Mijn zoon gaat binnenkort trouwen. Als moeder van de bruidegom wil ik graag een toespraak houden. Zou u zo vriendelijk willen zijn een voorbeeld van een toespraak te sturen.

Bij voorbaat dank.

Met vriendelijke groet.

veronica May 21, 2014 at 1:42 am

so many wonderful things to say, it is going to be too long of a speech. pls assist me in being direct to the point.

Vlad Suski May 21, 2014 at 5:54 am

an outline is very useful to stay to the point in your speech. Think of all the things you want to say and make an outline writing it all down as bullet points.
Also, instead of remembering all the different things you want to say, think just of a single point, a single message that absolutely must be in your speech, and focus on that message.

My son is getting married in May, 2015. He is gay, & therefore is marrying another man. I need some suitable ideas for the toast he has requested me to make. My husband is his ‘step-father’, & will not be speaking. Thank you!

Vlad Suski March 2, 2015 at 12:50 am

Hi Jo Ann,

We have a story from a best man who gave a speech at a gay wedding published on our website. That story might be a good thing for you to know.

Also, I think that general advice for a mother of groom would be very much applicable to your situation as your relationship with your son is likely to be nothing different from any mother-son relationships. Please check out our In-Depth Guide for Mother of Groom and a Speech Example right here.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
